Ep.13 Solving Not Selling

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have taken the opportunity to start something new and exciting –  ‘dough.agency’ is the creation of Vinnie Romano, a 13 year veteran in the advertising world after serving with companies such as Publicis, VCCP, BBDO and The Monkeys in both London and Sydney. He then took time to create his own agency (frizbee.com.au) – growing it to 15 people and having a turnover of $2.5m p.a which led to an acquisition offer from a larger group.

Vinnie has now become a consultant in the new-era of agency new business strategy with an affordable offering that is competitive to freelance and permanant New Business Director roles in ‘ad-land’ today – whilst remaining commission free. This is his new purpose – to help small to medium sized agencies grow without the costly overhead of being a full time employee.

All of this is helped by Vinnies’ unwavering enthusiasm for success and his experience in building brands – he really does love connecting with and then helping others acheive their goals.

  • What was the last book you read?

Vinnie – The 4 Hour Work Week is a book I started reading around 4 years ago – I tend to read a lot of blogs, articles and reports from my industry.

  • Who is the leader you look up to the most?

Vinnie – I like leaders who live up to what they say they are going to do and for me, you can’t look past Bill Gates. As well as being the man who recognised the pandemic was coming 5 years prior to when it did, he really delivers what he says he will.

  • What did you want to be when you grew up?

Vinnie – I never knew – I started working at a phone shop at the age of 16. Prior to that, my dad recognised that I had a keen interest in Marketing subjects and he nutured that in me so I’m grateful for that.

  • Whats the worst job you could imagine doing?

Vinnie – Anything Monday to Friday and 9-5 – its so restrictive and there is too much structure around that.
