Matthew S. Newman, has been in the financial services industry since 1997 and is a father to three small children, was diagnosed with grade three astrocytoma (brain cancer) at 39 years old. Matthew’s memoir, Starting At The Finish Line, chronicles the journey that he and his entire family took together which got him to a place of clarity, understanding and appreciation. The book’s underlying message of why it’s important to get your financial planning in order is both inspirational and actionable.

Matt has given gifts from cancer. His message is about living in the moment and appreciating the now. His story helps others gain clarity on what’s important in life.

His dedication to being a top performer at everything he does has led him to become number one in sales at his profession for over twenty years, while also fighting cancer. His passions are his family, his fitness, and raising money for charity. The importance of connection and realness has led to his book being read in over 10 different countries and understanding what truly inspires people.

  • What was the last book you read?

Matt – Unstoppable by Anthony Robles – this is a truly inspirational book from a very good friend of mine. He’s not only a wonderful human being but a really great friend.

  • Who is the leader you look up to the most?

Matt – My Dad, no question.

  • What did you want to be when you grew up?

Matt – I wanted to always be in financial services through college but before that I wanted to play for the Yankees.

  • Whats the worst job you could imagine doing?

Matt – Probably something that I never talk on.. Probably taking tickets at a movie theatre during the pandemic..

  • Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn?

Matt – They all have differentiations – I don’t really understand Twitter that much but Instagram and LinkedIn are probably my favourite two but it depends on what your purpose is.
